Italian driver Luca Betti says that the biggest disappointment of retiring from the Rallye Monte-Carlo is not being able to open the action on the final day of the event.
Betti’s Peugeot 207 S2000 slid off the road in the snowy conditions of Thursday’s final stage, just two kilometres from the finish. Had he completed the stage he would have been 10th and first on the road today, which forms the climax of the action as the crews head into the mythical Col du Turini stages above Monaco.
“It’s such a shame as we were doing a good job and we’ve paid a very heavy price for a small mistake,” said Betti. “It happened in an instant; the car just slid wide and the nose became stuck in ditch. There were very few spectators around, so we couldn’t get out.”
Betti plans to contest some more Intercontinental Rally Challenge events this year, but his exact programme is yet to be defined.
