Three weeks after claiming his 6th and 7th podium of the season in Japan, Tiago Monteiro is committed to providing Honda a new series of good results in Shanghai, home to round 10 of 12 in the 2016 FIA World Touring Car Championship, WTCC. The Portuguese driver is also aiming to maintain his second place in the driver’s championship.
Despite a significant ballast in the last races, Honda maintained a good level of performance so Tiago believes that even with an additional 60 kg, he should still be able to fight for victory, thanks to the qualities of his Honda Civic.
"To be Back on the circuit where I took the first victory for Honda is always a special moment. In addition to this, our motivation is high because we have been competitive this year and still battling at the front. There is no reason it shouldn’t be the same in Shanghai," said Tiago.
Currently second in the championship, level on points with Yvan Muller, Tiago is hoping to gain the advantage over his French rival without the use of team orders, as has been the case for some of his opponents in the past.
"At Honda, we are all equal when we’re on track, we do not sacrifice ourselves for the result of a team member. It would be fairer and more in the spirit of sport that all our opponents have the same approach. The important thing is to concentrate on our job and do the best one possible," concluded Tiago.
