Tiago Monteiro has experienced one of the roughest race weekends of his career on the Moulay el Hassan Circuit in Marrakech. After his qualifying session was compromised by contact with a wall, another crash due to a technical probem forced Tiago into the wall in race one.
Morocco, which hosted the third and fourth races of the 2013 FIA World Touring Car Championship, WTCC, saw Tiago start the weekend with a strong pace in practice, however on a circuit where he has had the pleasure of standing on the podium in the past, refused to smile to him today. In race one due to a technical problem, a support of a damper gave up and sent his Honda Civic To the wall and unfortunately the damage was not able to be repaired in time for the start of the second race.
Tiago Couldn’t hide his disappointment: "We knew from the beginning that this circuit was aggressive on the suspensions and that posed a problem throughout the entire weekend. Unfortunately, and despite all my precautions, a support of the damper gave away and I hit a wall. This is not the result we expected, but the championship is long and the team’s potential is very promising."
Tiago Monteiro’s teammate, Gabriele Tarquini, finished second in the first race but had the same misfortune as the Portuguese driver in the second event. Despite this disappointment, Jas Motorsport Honda and Tiago remain focused on their goals and retain the same motivation. "We are satisfied with the overall performance of the car and we will continue with our development program. Fortunately, there is great team spirit at and Honda will soon overcome these bad times," concluded Tiago Monteiro.
The next race of the 2013 World Touring Car Championship will be held on April 27 and 28 in Slovakia.
