Muller: I’m no number two in the WTCC

"I will try to win of course"

Four-time world champion Yvan Muller insists he will never accept number two status at Citroën.

Muller is the WTCC’s most successful driver with more titles, wins, poles and fastest laps than any other driver.

However, he lost his crown to Citroën team-mate José María López in 2014 and finished 118 points behind the Argentine last season.

Asked at the WTCC Media Launch in Italy on Wednesday if he would accept number two status Muller said: “Of course not. I am here first of all to help Citroën to win the title and honestly that’s not just to say something. That is my first goal and of course if I can win the [Drivers’] title I will try to win of course. I wouldn’t be here if I don’t think so.”

Muller and López form Citroën’s two-strong factory attack in this season’s World Touring Car Championship, which gets underway at Circuit Paul Ricard in France from 1-3 April.
