IRC Production Cup leader Andreas Aigner will have a new co-driver for next week’s Sibiu Rally in Romania.
The Austrian, who has won his class on both appearances made so far this season, has recruited the experienced Ilka Minor to deputise for regular navigator Daniela Ertl for the gravel event from 19-21 July.
Ertl has been forced to stand down due to commitments away from her rallying career, prompting Aigner to find a replacement.
“I got a surprising career advancement opportunity that I could not refuse,” said Ertl. “With a heavy heart I had to recognise that a comprehensive international rally programme cannot be combined with my profession.”
Minor is well known to the Stohl Racing operation, which runs Aigner’s Subaru Impreza R4 STI, having co-driven for team boss Manfred Stohl extensively over the years.
“Too bad this has happened to Daniela in the middle of the season but I am delighted that I could find at such short notice the highest quality replacement in Ilka, but that’s the advantage driving for Stohl Racing,” said Aigner. “This is the right solution and I hope we can achieve success together.”
Aigner will be a Sibiu Rally rookie when he tackles the event next week.
