Peruvian rally champion Nicolas Fuchs will join Symtech Racing for the rest of the Production Car World Rally Championship this year, starting from the next round on the Acropolis Rally in Greece. He will use a Symtech-built Subaru Impreza, identical to the car in which New Zealander Haydon Paddon clinched the PWRC title with the Belgian team last year.
Last year, Symtech Racing claimed four victories with Paddon en route to the championship title. The campaign underlined both the competitiveness and reliability of Symtech’s cars: values that have convinced Nicolas Fuchs to continue his PWRC campaign in Europe with the Belgian team.
Nicolas Fuchs: "We were all able to see last year how quick and reliable the Symtech Racing Subaru Impreza was, and I was also impressed by the professionalism of the whole team. Once my budget was finalised it was an easy decision: I was going to take the plunge with Symtech. In order to reduce costs, I used my own car in Mexico and Argentina. Up to now we’ve been second twice and that puts us in a good position in the PWRC standings. The next rallies are going to be very interesting and I’m already really looking forward to working with Symtech."
Dirk Van der Sluys (Symtech Racing) was delighted with this latest announcement. "It’s great to be back at the cutting-edge of the PWRC again, with a driver of Nico’s calibre, who is going to allow us to fight at the front. Our objective will be once more to win! And we’re sure that’s going to be possible with Nicolas Fuchs."
As well as the entry for Fuchs in the PWRC, Symtech Racing also organises and runs Rally Class: a new competition that runs within the World Rally Championship this year using strictly identical Group N Subaru Impreza. Wim De Boeck (Symtech Racing): "We’ve now got four cars in ’Rally Class’, which ran for the first time in Portugal. All four cars were there at the finish and we also managed to clinch first and second places in Group N. In the service area we have a dedicated area for the Rally Class competitors and that is where we will run the PWRC car from as well."
The Acropolis Rally takes place from 26-29 May 2012 in Greece.
