No heroics, says Production Cup star Pech

Václav Pech says he has unlikely to attempt to repeat the heroics that earned him sixth place on Barum Czech Rally Zlín in 2010 when the Intercontinental Rally Challenge qualifier resumes on Saturday morning.

The hugely experienced Czech driver, who pilots a Ralliart Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX R4, said he was more concerned about keeping his car in peak condition rather than pushing for top 10 stage times, despite completing SSS Zlín with the equal ninth fastest time.

“The competition is big that it wouldn’t make sense for us to set too high goals,” said Pech, who competes under the EuroOil Cepro Czech National Team banner. “It is more important for us to keep the car in good shape and to make a good decision regarding the tyres. We simply would like to be able to say that we’ve done our best for success after the event. So the most important thing for us is a good feeling at the end. We will try to fight and do our best where it makes sense.”

Pech is the favourite of IRC Production Cup honours in Zlín. The category was introduced for the 2011 season and has proved a popular addition to the IRC with healthy support from car makes Ralliart and Subaru.
