Andreas Mikkelsen says he is driving in the “middle of the road” as he looks to preserve his comfortable lead on the Sibiu Rally.

Mikkelsen heads his closest rival Sepp Wiegand by 2m48.5s with three stages of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge qualifier remaining.

The ŠKODA UK Motorsport driver said: “Everything is going okay. We are doing what we have to do, and that’s driving to bring the car home. We are using the harder Michelin tyres to minimise the risk of punctures and staying in the middle of the road. Everything is good – we are really enjoying the driving.”

Mikkelsen is carrying two spare tyres in his Fabia S2000 today, having taken just one on Friday’s stages. “We tried to gain a lot of time yesterday but today is all about being safe.”
