Tiago Monteiro says several strong on-track performances in 2015 made up for the handful of setbacks he suffered during this season’s FIA World Touring Car Championship.
Monteiro, who partnered Gabriele Tarquini in the Castrol Honda World Touring Car Team, won three races on the road including at Honda’s home Twin Ring Motegi track in Japan.
“Overall we’ve shown progress throughout the year and despite the setbacks, we still took three victories on track so we can be happy with our performance over the season,” said the Portuguese, who started his 200th WTCC race in Japan back in September.
Although his first win of 2015 in Russia was a major highlight, Monteiro was left disappointed following his home race in Portugal and again in Thailand. A start-line crash in Vila Real wrecked his hopes of a home triumph, while his victory in the second event at the Chang International Circuit was erased when his Civic WTCC failed post-race technical checks.
