Polestar Cyan Racing drivers Thed Björk and Fredrik Ekblom will battle for FIA World Touring Car Championship success at the Nürburgring Nordschleife next week without the hindrance of carrying compensation weight in their Volvo S60 Polestar TC1s.

Under rules designed to equalise performance between the various World Touring Cars, a system of adding success ballast based on the difference in lap times operates.

As the winning manufacturer from 2015, Citroën began this season carrying 80 kilograms of additional weight, the maximum allowed under the championship regulations, and will continue to do so for WTCC Race of Germany from 26-28 May.

However, while the Honda Civic WTCCs and LADA Vestas will carry 40 kilograms, the two Volvos will remain at their minimum base weight of 1100 kilograms in Germany, which could hand the Swedish machines a performance advantage.

The Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1s will also run without success ballast, a welcome boost for home racer Sabine Schmitz, who is making her return to the WTCC after one year away.
