Polestar Racing completed the first test with the new Volvo 1.6-litre turbo engine last week at Mantorp Park in Sweden.

“The first impression was very good. It looks like the engine has a great potential,” said Robert Dahlgren who drove the Volvo C30 car at Mantorp.

The team will test again after Monza, with the aim to switch as soon as possible from the current 2.0L normally aspirated unit to the 1.6L turbo.

Polestar Racing principal Christian Dahl explained: “We expect the new engine to mark a significant step forward in terms of performance and therefore we believe it needs some further test sessions before being used in racing conditions. This is the reason why we took the decision not to bring it to Monza. A reasonable goal is to make the switch sometimes in June.”
