GP2 organisers have announced today that the Series will not return to Portugal this season. The Portuguese venue was initially scheduled to host this season’s fourth round in June, and following this announcement it has been decided that Portimao’s event will not be replaced.

The 2010 season will now consist of ten rounds, from Barcelona this weekend to Abu Dhabi on November 13-14.

GP2 Series organiser Bruno Michel explained: “We are disappointed to have to cancel Portimao this season, but the track organisers have not met their contractual obligations, and therefore, we cannot go back to Portugal this year. It is a shame because I believe that GP2 produced some great race action on that track last September, and we would have loved to have
Portimao on our calendar again this season. We will see whether we can return there in 2011. Meanwhile, we will not replace this round in 2010, and therefore will now have twenty races on our calendar.”
