Martin Kangur has received significant praise following his victory in the IRC 2WD Cup on last week’s Geko Ypres Rally.

Kangur, from Estonia, moved joint top of the IRC 2WD Cup drivers’ standings with Harry Hunt following his success on the challenging asphalt event in north-west Belgium against considerable opposition.

Afterwards, Fabrizio Grieco, Kangur’s engineer at JAS Motorsport – the team responsible for running his Catwees Honda Racing Civic Type R – said: “Martin was impressive, he made two little mistakes, but that didn’t make a difference to the rest of his perfect rally. He drove intelligently, didn’t let the pressure of others distract him and showed just how fast he can be on Tarmac. Of course he’s more at home on gravel, so we’re all really looking forward to seeing him compete in the San Marino Rally in early July.”

The Ypres Rally was Kangur’s second appearance in this year’s IRC. He is planning an expanded programme of events now that he has finished his school exams.
