Q&A with Harry Hunt

Briton on leading the IRC 2WD Cup and remembering his friend Gareth Roberts

Chargement ...

You’re now in the lead of the IRC 2WD Cup; how does that feel?

“It’s obviously good to lead the championship, but I’m really sorry that the event I took the lead on ended in such sad and tragic circumstances, with the loss of Gareth Roberts. In that context, whether I’m leading or not isn’t really important. Gareth will be remembered so fondly by all of us: that’s what’s important.”

Ypres is the second rally in as many weeks: how tough is that to cope with?

“Personally, I like back to back rallies: it means that you really get into the groove of driving the car and have plenty of seat time. It’s tough for the teams logistically, but from a driver’s point of view it’s really good. I’d be driving all the time if I could.”

There are always plenty of British fans in Ypres: does that give you added motivation?

“Definitely: it’s great to see so many Brits coming over and I can completely see why, as Ypres is a fantastic event that is really easy to get to from the UK. There’s a real buzz about all sorts of sport at the moment, especially in London where I live because of the Olympics, and it feels great to be a small part of that.”
