Q&A with Robert Consani

"We want to do as many rounds of the IRC as possible"

What’s your programme for this year’s IRC?

“We want to do as many rounds of the IRC as possible – everything if we can – but like always it depends on budget. Our plan is to use the Renault Mégane for asphalt and our Clio R3 for gravel, as the Mégane isn’t homologated for gravel.”

Which car do you prefer?

“I like them both but the Mégane is obviously special: I drove it throughout last year in France, and did all the French championship, whereas the year before I drove the Clio. We won the first round last year, but unfortunately then we were held back by a few mechanical problems that meant we weren’t able to deliver on the potential that was clearly there in the Mégane. But it was a brand new car at the time so to some extent that’s normal.”

Why did you choose the IRC this year?

“I wanted to take the next step up in my career and move onto the international stage, and try some events on gravel as well. There are some fantastic rallies on the IRC calendar with a really good profile and of course great television coverage as well from Eurosport. So it made sense to me on many levels and so far I’ve really enjoyed it.”
