This is the moment that Jean-Michel Raoux’s bid to win the IRC 2WD Cup title could have suffered a huge blow after the Frenchman dropped his Clio R3 into a ditch two kilometres from the finish Saturday’s opening stage, Craigvinean.

Fortunately Raoux survived this moment and reached Saturday’s overnight halt in Perth in third position in the category behind leader Martin Kangur (Honda Civic Type R) and defending champion Harry Hunt.

Raoux is currently second to Stefano Albertini in the IRC 2WD Cup title race and can move to the top of the standings with a strong points finish on RACMSA Rally of Scotland this weekend. Albertini is not contesting the gravel event.

“The conditions have been difficult today,” said Raoux on Saturday evening. “I would like to push for the win but I don’t want to take any more risks. Maybe it is best to sit back behind Martin and Harry.”
