Guy Wilks believes that whichever driver gels with their car the quickest will have a big advantage when round four of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, Rally Islas Canarias, gets underway at the expected fast and furious pace tomorrow morning.
Wilks his chasing his first win of the season and starts the Tarmac event second in the IRC drivers’ standings at the wheel of his Škoda UK Motorsport Fabia Super 2000.
“The opening loop of stages will be very important – everyone will be going flat-out and there will be no time to ease your way in,” said Wilks. “The second stage is almost 25 kilometres long, so if you’re up to full speed straight away, you have a good chance to get the jump on someone. I think whoever gels with their car the quickest tomorrow will have a big advantage.”
Defending IRC champion Kris Meeke added: “You’ve got to be on it from the word go on this rally because there won’t be a lot in it with the times.”
