Rio Haryanto joins Campos Racing for 2015 GP2 Series season

Campos Racing have announced another signing for the coming GP2 Series season: Indonesia´s Rio Haryanto. This agreement represents for the Alzira-based team to have on board one of the most talented and experienced drivers in the series.

Haryanto was born on 22 January, 1993 in Surakarta (Indonesia) and becomes the most iconic driver in his country. He began his racing career in 2008, taking part in what may be considered as two excellent racing platforms like the Formula Asia 2.0 and Formula BMW. Then, in 2009, Rio managed to grab Formula BMW Pacific title. For 2010 he made his debut in GP3 Series and, in addition, he was a Marussia Virgin Racing test driver. He completed a second year in GP3 during 2011 and joined the Auto GP championship as well. After joining 2011 season finale in Abu Dhabi, his rookie season was 2012. From then on he has always raced in this championship, taking two podiums (2nd at Silverstone, 2013 and 3rd at the Monegasque urban track, 2014) as his personal-best.

“I am very happy to be back in GP2 this year and looking forward to working together with Campos. I feel that Campos Racing is a strong team and are very committed to success and Adrian is a good motivator. Thank you to Pertamina for the loyal support”, Haryanto explained.

For his part, Adrián Campos remarked that “I should like warmly to welcome Rio Haryanto to Campos Racing. I am very pleased as he is an experienced driver. We are going to give him our full support to deliver good results together”.

Haryanto will team up with France´s Arthur Pic, who was able to achieve outstanding results in 2014 on his debut.
