The WTCC will be visiting Russia for the first time, as rounds 11 and 12 take place next week at the Moscow Raceway on June 9.
The Russian racetrack, located some 80 km West of the Federation’s capital city was designed by German architect Hermann Tilke and constructed between 2008 and 2012.
The Moscow Raceway was homologated by the FIA as grade 1T (Formula One Testing) and hosted its inaugural event on 15 July 2012.
The WTCC cars will use its longest layout – 3,931 metres – in two 13-lap races.
Only three of the World Championship’s competitors, have raced on this track before: locals Mikhail Kozslovskiy and Nikolay Karamyshev in the Russian Racing Championship, while Tom Coronel claimed third in the Renault Mégane Trophy on the inauguration day.
Championship promoter Marcello Lotti commented: “Adding a Russian event to the calendar was one of our priorities. After having managed to establish races in Japan, China and USA, now we are excited to visit Russia, as we land on a new and important automotive market, making the WTCC horizon even wider.”
