Organisers of the Geko Ypres Rally, round six of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, could still achieve their target of attracting 30 Super 2000 cars for the asphalt event, which runs from 24-26 June.

The provisional entry list for the 46th running of the rally includes 28 Super 2000 cars. With registrations not due to close until Friday 11 June, Alain Penasse, the event manager, remains optimistic that more S2000 cars will take part.

“The entry list is indeed fantastic,” said Penasse. “We will still accept entries until Friday so everything is still possible to breach the barrier of 30 [S2000] cars, which would be the first time a rally has achieved that.”

In addition to IRC frontrunners Juho Hänninen, Jan Kopecký and Kris Meeke, the winner in Ypres last year, other drivers in S2000 cars include Belgian rallying legends Freddy Loix and Patrick Snyers, who will be taking part in a Škoda Fabia and Peugeot 207 respectively, and factory Proton pair, Chris Atkinson and Alister McRae.
