Umberto Scandola will be hoping to capitalise on his event knowledge on Rallye Sanremo this week.

The Italian has been a regular on the asphalt contest, the penultimate event of the 2012 Intercontinental Rally Challenge season, since the beginning of his career.

He said: “It’s one of the rallies I know best and in the past we have shown some encouraging speed. We’ve had a great season and our ŠKODA Fabia has been an extremely competitive car and very easy to drive. My focus this year is on the Italian championship, so while I’d like to push as hard as I can and target an overall result, there is no point in me chasing the IRC competitors and taking risks.”

Scandola, 27, has already taken part on two rounds of the IRC this season and scored a podium finish on Rally San Marino in July. He is currently ninth in the drivers’ standings.
