Paolo Andreucci’s co-driver Anna Andreussi says it’s vital that they hold on to second place on Rally d’Italia-Sardegna following Kris Meeke’s retirement from the Intercontinental Rally Challenge event.

Andreucci and Andreussi are the leading Peugeot runners following Meeke and co-driver Paul Nagle’s premature exit on stage 10. However, Jan Kopecký is now only 4.3 seconds behind the Italians in his Škoda Fabia S2000.

“It’s very important for Peugeot and the manufacturers’ championship we finish second but we know Kopecký is a big threat,” said Andreussi.

Meanwhile, the co-driver explained the reason for their dramatic loss of time on Sunday’s opening stage, which dropped them from first to third overall.

“We had a lot of problems with the suspension set-up,” said Andreussi. “Paolo made a mistake because he didn’t want to change the car but it was too soft in the morning and was a real problem.”
