Spanish driver Sergio Canamasas will make his GP2 debut this weekend at Hockenheim, as the former Formula Renault 3.5 Series driver replaces Fabrizio Crestani at the Venezuela GP Lazarus team. Canamasas will become only the second Spanish driver to partake in the Series this season, after Dani Clos earlier in the season.
The Venezuela GP Lazarus team are currently in their debut season in GP2, and currently sit 12th in the Constructors’ Championship with only 1 point scored. This point was scored in the opening race of the 2012 season, by Fabrizio Crestani around the Sepang circuit at Kuala Lumpur.
"I’ve been waiting all year for an opportunity to make my GP2 debut and it has finally arrived," explained Sergio Canamasas. "Venezuela GP Lazarus has showed a lot of interest in having me to get the team back on the right track as it hadn’t been achieving very good results. My 2011 season in Formula Renault 3.5 did not go unnoticed and I face this new chapter in my career with high hopes."
Sergio Canamasas will team up with Venezuelan driver Giancarlo Serenelli, who has yet to score a Championship point this season. With the addition of Canamasas, Venezuelan GP Lazarus will undoubtedly be striving for competitive results this weekend.
