Leading privateer Henning Solberg has revealed he is working on a deal to contest the eight remaining WRC events after next month’s Rally Argentina.

The Norwegian, who drove an Adapta Motorsport Ford Fiesta RS WRC to fifth place on the recent Rally de Portugal – his first gravel rally in two years – told WRC.com that he’s working hard to put a programme together for the rest of the season.

He said: “Malcolm [Wilson] has a car for me to use in Sardinia and we’re near to closing it. I hope we can do everything except for Argentina. That’s my dream.”

Solberg is one of the most experienced drivers in the FIA World Rally Championship having racked up 113 starts in the 16 years since he first made his WRC debut.

The 42-year-old believes he remains one of the fastest drivers in the sport and that an extended 2014 programme of events could help him to land a top WRC drive in the future.

“Rally is my passion. It’s the most important motorsport for me,” he explained. “I am good enough to be top-three in the world if I have the right seat every time. I still hope I can be at least a number two driver in a team. That is my dream. I want to show them how fast I can really be.”

Should he be successful in securing a programme for the rest of the 2014 season, Solberg is keen to continue his relationship with the M-Sport-prepared Ford Fiesta RS WRC he drove in Sweden and Portugal.

He said: “The Fiesta that I had in Portugal was one of the best cars I’ve had to now. That felt like a proper one.”
