Petter Solberg started day two of Rally Italia Sardinia in second place and intended to reduce as much as possible the gap to overnight leader Sébastien Loeb.
He took 7 seconds back on the day’s opening stage but then was once again hit with bad luck. He had a slow puncture on SS10 and lost around twelve seconds on this 27.97 kilometer-long stage. He completed the morning loop in third overall.
He lost another place in the standings in the afternoon because of a small mistake on SS12. He still lies in fourth place overall at the end of day two and will tackle Sunday’s leg with a podium finish as his sole target.
“A good start position for tomorrow”, he said. “It’s been a really tough day and it has been a big attack. We lost 12 seconds on a puncture on stage 11 and also lost time on SS14, which I think is because I have not tested on that kind of surface. The car has worked perfectly all day, and I will get back on the podium tomorrow!”
