Dani Sordo says he will continue pushing on the final stage of Giru di Corsica-Tour de Corse despite holding a lead of 23.8s in his MINI John Cooper Works S2000.
"I won’t take risks but I have to push because if you are pushing then you are concentrating to the maximum,” said the Spaniard. “It’s very easy to make a small mistake in the last stage because it is very difficult and if you are too relaxed you could end up losing a lot of time because it’s a long stage and you have no split timing in the car.”
If Sordo, who is co-driven by countryman Carlos del Barrio, do win then it will mark a debut triumph in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge for Sordo and MINI. However, because MINI is not eligible for IRC manufacturers’ points on this event, ŠKODA is set to extend its advantage in the title standings.
