Oleksii Tamrazov is using this week’s Giru di Corsica-Tour de Corse to promote AIDS awareness in his native Ukraine.

Tamrazov is undertaking an expanded programme of Intercontinental Rally Challenge events in 2012 in an M-Sport Ford Fiesta S2000 run by the Dream Team Ukraine operation. After five stages, Tamrazov and Italian co-driver Nicola Arena are in 23rd overall in their ’AIDS Stop’-branded machine.

“I don’t have a sponsor but I don’t just like having stickers on the car so I wanted to put this important message on my car,” said Tamrazov, who has been nursing a minor clutch issue since the start of the event. “In Ukraine we have one of the highest figures of people who have AIDS, if not the highest and it’s important we highlight a serious issue like this and don’t always think about the sport or the economy.”
