Yukinori Taniguchi will race in the Wiechers-Sport BMW 320 TC that was left free by regular driver Fredy Barth due to another racing commitment.
Taniguchi makes his comeback to WTCC in which he was competing in 2010 and 2011 at the wheel of Chevrolet cars run by bamboo-engineering; the Japanese was especially effective in his home races, winning the Yokohama Trophy at Okayama in 2010 with a Lacetti and finishing seventh overall at Suzuka in 2011 with a Cruze.
“I am extremely happy to come back to the most exciting series in the world! I have the highest respect for potential of the Wiechers-Sport team and the BMW car; I will try my best to improve my best results and and bring another WTCC Trophy to Japan,” said Taniguchi.
Team manager Dominik Greiner echoed: “I’m happy we had the opportunity to sign Yukinori for the races in Japan. Yuke and me are friends since a few years and I look forward to working with him for the first time. He knows Suzuka very well and I’m confident that he will be quick.”
