Volkswagens have won the International Jännerrallye on two occasions in the past but even the make’s sole representative on this year’s 30th running of the Austrian contest admits a third triumph is just a “pipe dream”.

Kris Rosenberger, the third-seeded local driver, will be competing in a Polo S2000 alongside co-driver Tina-Maria Monego.

“My focus is on the domestic championship which is only for Austrian drivers,” said Rosenberger, whose best finish on the Freistadt event is the fifth place finish he achieved in 2011.

Achim Warmbold (1972) and Beppo Sulc (1978) both won the Jännerrallye driving Volkswagens.
