This coming weekend Tiago Monteiro will participate in his most emotional event of the season. On the 29th and 30th of June, behind the wheel of his Honda Civic in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, WTCC, the Portuguese driver will take up the challenge of the Boavista circuit in his native city of Oporto. The Boavista round is more than just a weekend race for Tiago because having his family, friends and home fans watching on, his sense of responsibility increases. Therefore he is hoping to provide the 200,000 Portuguese fans attending the event some very good reasons to celebrate.
In Oporto, Tiago’s, Honda and JAS Motorsport’s goal is to finish on the podium. Tiago has already won at Estoril and Algarve and finished on the third step of the podium at Boavista in 2011... "I’ve never won in Boavista, but my first goal is to take one of the top three spots for the first time in the Honda Civic on the Boavista circuit," said Monteiro. "Don’t underestimate our opponents potential, and the luck factor. Anything can happen on a street circuit and there are a variety of factors that must be met to have a good weekend."
Last week, Tiago Monteiro took part in the shakedown of his Honda Civic in Italy before arriving in Portugal and has great ambitions driving a car that is both fast and effective. "I think we will be able to be at the forefront in qualifying and both races. I’m looking forward to getting the weekend started. Not only for me, but also because it is the first time Honda has raced on this circuit. My responsibilities are greater, but that is also a source of motivation."
Tiago Monteiro will be in the middle of the media spotlight, but he will retain the same professional approach displayed a every round of the FIA WTCC... "My way of working remains the same," assured Tiago, "We are focused on our goals and the first of them will be to get the get the best out of us and the car. It will be a more challenging weekend in terms of expectations, but I hope to meet them all."
