José María López has all the attributes needed to fly high in FIA Formula E next season according to the man he succeeded to the FIA World Touring Car Championship throne.

Yvan Muller was WTCC champion when López was signed to partner him at Citroën for the 2014 season. López won the title that year and is on course for a third consecutive crown in 2016 before he switches to Formula E with Citroën’s sister brand DS, a deal announced one week ago today.

“He’s a tough competitor, he’s fast, he’s experienced, technically he’s good,” said Muller. “He’s a top driver and he’s at the level where I probably was five years ago. I am convinced he will be successful because he’s a good driver and secondly I am sure DS will give him a good car.”

López and Muller will be back on WTCC duty in López’s native Argentina from 5-7 August. Following a frustrating start to his world championship campaign, Muller trails López by 111 points and has yet to claim a race win this term.
