Ricardo Trivino wants a top 10 finish on Rally Guanajuato Mexico even though he faces an uphill struggle at the wheel of his Ford Fiesta RS WRC.

Despite being one of the most experienced drivers in the field, the Mexican has never driven a new-generation World Rally Car in competition before and only managed to cover 25 kilometres during a pre-event test.

“My objective is to score points this time,” said the 38-year-old Trivino, who was denied a points finish on his last World Rally Car outing in Mexico in 2008, after being disqualified for wearing non-homologated gloves. “I think this is possible. Of course I will have a lot of very good drivers around me, but I will be able to use my experience of the roads.

“This is going to be a fantastic rally for me as it is the first time that I will drive a really modern car. The last time I drove a World Rally Car was a Peugeot 206 WRC, which was already quite old. So I think we can do something nice.”

Trivino’s World Rally Car outing is a one-off, as he will be contesting the Production Car World Rally Championship for the remainder of the season. His M-Sport-run Fiesta will be equipped with DMACK tyres.
