Rafael Tulio holds a commanding lead in the IRC 2WD Cup with seven stages of Sata Rallye Açores remaining. The Brazilian, who is competing on the Atlantic archipelago for the first time, is more than three minutes clear of his nearest class rival, fellow Peugeot 206 driver Carlos Oliveira.

“We have had no problems so I am not really surprised to be leading,” said Tulio. “It is a very good rally, difficult and spectacular. I hope I can win.”

Victory for Tulio would put him four points clear of Pierre Campana in the IRC 2WD Cup drivers’ standings following his maximum score on Rally Argentina in March. Campana is not competing in the Azores.
