The race stewards have handed four drivers penalties arising from this afternoon’s eventful feature race in Valencia after finding them guilty of causing avoidable collisions.
Jules Bianchi and Fabio Leimer were given penalties for their accidents with Marcus Ericsson and Alvaro Parente respectively on the first lap, which saw all four drivers out of the race at turn one, prompting a safety car period.
Later incidents saw Super Nova teammates Luca Filippi and Fairuz Fauzy tangle with rivals. The Italian was fighting for P4 with Dani Clos when he lost a position to the Spaniard: as he tried to regain it, he touched the Racing Engineering car’s back end, which sent the Italian to an early retirement. The Malaysian was later touched by Dams’ Pal Varhaug at turn 17.
Bianchi, Leimer, Filippi and Varhaug were all handed a ten grid position penalty for tomorrow’s sprint race.
