José Maria López ended Honda’s stranglehold on the fastest times at FIA WTCC Race of Portugal by topping Free Practice 2 at Vila Real.

López posted a time of 1m56.365s in his Citroën, outpacing Norbert Michelisz by 0.334 seconds.

Home hero Tiago Monteiro was third once more ahead of Yvan Muller, who spent a large part of the session in the pits after braking a wishbone in contact with a barrier, but Citroën got him back on track before the end.

Thed Björk continued to improve in his Volvo with fifth place ahead of FP2 pace-setter Rob Huff. Tom Coronel was the best WTCC Trophy driver in seventh and was followed by Nicky Catsburg, Mehdi Bennani and James Thompson.

Qualifying will begin at 14h00.
