Scottish driver Dave Weston Junior will contest four rounds of this year’s Intercontinental Rally Challenge, starting with the Geko Ypres Rally in Belgium next month.

The 19-year-old will drive a Subaru Impreza N2010 for the Welsh Ramsport team and will also take part on the rounds in Zlín (Czech Republic), Scotland and Cyprus.

Weston, who is a member of the Team UK driver training programme, made his IRC debut on last year’s Rally of Scotland. He was an impressive fourth overall when he crashed out of the event on the opening leg.

He said: "It’s always been our intention to contest some IRC this year for experience, but our accident on the Pirelli [Rally in the UK] last month dented our budget slightly so I wasn’t sure how things would pan out.

“I’ve got to thank Prodrive for this opportunity. They have helped us massively after the Pirelli to get the car ready for the Jim Clark, and will be providing additional support to run my car on the IRC rounds."
