Sepp Wiegand will drive a rally car that is even older than him when he contests the ADAC Eifel Rallye Festival, which began in his native Germany on Thursday.

The 21-year-old, who was battling for a podium finish on the Sibiu Rally only for a late mechanical failure to end his hopes, will be switching from his regular ŠKODA Fabia Super 2000 to a Volkswagen Golf built for the 1990 Rally Australia.

“It will be a fun thing to do to drive a rally car that is actually older than me,” said Wiegand, a frontrunner in this season’s Intercontinental Rally Challenge with ŠKODA Auto Deutschland. “It’s not a rally where you compete for times, it’s a just a demonstration so there will be no pressure. It will be a good experience for me and I can’t wait.”
