Guy Wilks says he relished taking part on Rally Islas Canarias for the first time last weekend.

The Briton, who finished third on the Intercontinental Rally Challenge qualifier, was also full of praise for the Gran Canaria-based event, which attracted an estimated 70,000 spectators.

“It was a fantastically organised event and a very interesting place to go rallying,” said the Škoda UK Motorsport driver. “The road surface was quite abrasive but it also changes a lot so you had to change your rhythm and style, which is a good challenge.”

Wilks was also impressed by the huge number of fans who turned up to watch the two-day rally.

“The crowds were fantastic and the atmosphere was great,” said Wilks. “I was so disappointed for them when I saw them walking away from the cancelled stage on Friday night. That was a real shame for them but that’s what happens when there are just too many fans.”
