Guy Wilks began his preparations for Rally Islas Canarias with a two-day test in northern Italy earlier this week.

The Škoda UK Motorsport driver, currently second in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, covered 120 kilometres on Tarmac roads near Sanremo and said the test, which took place in mixed conditions, had been a success.

“I’ve not had much mileage in the [Fabia Super 2000] on Tarmac so this was a good chance to get some running in the car and work on the set-up for the Canary Islands,” said Wilks. “It was a good, effective test and I’m confident we’ve found an improvement to the rear-end stability problems we’ve been suffering from, especially with the changes we made to the dampers.”

Wilks is now planning a final set-up test in Gran Canaria on the Monday before the IRC qualifier, which takes place from 29 April-1 May. The Briton is five points adrift of Juho Hänninen in the drivers’ standings after three rounds.
