Franz Wittmann has decided to cancel plans to contest Rallye Sanremo in Italy later this week.

However, the 26-year-old from Austria won’t be calling time in his Intercontinental Rally Challenge bid just yet after confirming he will enter November’s FxPro Cyprus Rally instead. He had been due to drive his Interwetten Racing Peugeot 207 S2000 alongside German co-driver Klaus Wicha on the famous asphalt rally.

“We made this decision in the light of our further development [with the car recently],” said Wittmann. “Sometimes one has to be able to change one’s arrangements, something which we have already done this season.”

Wittmann, who has shown plenty of potential this year in his first season of S2000 competition, had been tipped as a top-eight finisher in Sanremo by his team boss Ronny Leschhorn following his run to 11th overall on Barum Czech Rally Zlín last month.
